In college I took a great class from Craig Nelson called Quick Studies. It was one of the better classes I took in all my years there. The premise was that the main statement should be made in the first 10-20 minutes of painting. If you can’t get enough of the main subject down in that time, you are working too slow. Having become frustrated at the amount of time spent (fruitlessly) on the tractor, I decided to try to get this sunset picture down in the 10 minutes that I had. Not great, but…not so good either 🙂 It was a lot more fun, and so was the next one done right after sunset, you can feel the haze of the atmosphere.
